Peace. Everyone is looking for it. But how do you find peace in the world we are living in today with wars, sickness and tragedy on every news channel? One way. God. He is our peace. Sound too simple? Okay, let’s face reality – life is hectic – our days are filled with appointments, schedules, work, kids — the list goes on and on. Still, God is our peace. Yet there are things you can do to help bring inner peace into your life.
Create your world
Create your world — the one you dream of! Many regrets center on things we haven’t done, especially as we age. It is never too late to start. The Bible teaches us that we can literally create our world. How? With the words of our mouth. That’s how we begin. If there are things you have always wanted to do but can’t, sit down, make a list, then begin to pray and think on them. Ask God to show you ways to fit these desires into your life. Nothing is impossible and often if you simply re-prioritize, you will find you actually do have the time and means to begin to create the life you want. Take simple, small steps and you will be amazed at how quickly things come into place.
Stop Trying to Be Perfect
Perfection is great but can be very frustrating. No one person can do everything. No matter how much you have accomplished, if you allow yourself you can always come up with more you could have done. STOP. Give yourself a break. Do the best you can do and then let it go.
Often as Christians we attempt to be perfect to prove ourselves worthy. We are only worthy through the blood of Jesus and it would do us wonders to remember that. It takes a large amount of pressure off. So, next time you are attempting to be Ms. Perfect, try this; laugh, yes laugh at yourself. The Bible says that laughter does good like medicine. Just laugh. Keep this in mind, being perfect will never make God love or accept you more…and being imperfect will never lessen His love and acceptance of you.
Take Care of Yourself
You know that old saying “if you don’t take care of yourself, no one else will.” Though it was meant to be a negative statement, it is also true…if you don’t take care of yourself, you simply can’t care for those you love.
Keep your body healthy by eating properly and getting exercise. I know…you hear this all the time…but it’s true. If you eat right and get exercise you are more healthy and feel much better. Your outlook on life will even improve. When life and schedules are invading your health, stop and take care of yourself. Get plenty of rest. Don’t worry or stress – the Bible says it doesn’t add to the situation at all. So, do all you can do, take care of yourself and then lay the rest at the feet of Jesus and breathe. Just breathe.
Forgive
Did you know that a leading cause of sickness and disease is unforgiveness? Scientists tell us that people who carry around bitterness or unforgiveness are more likely to be sick. Research has shown that those people who are able to simply “let things go” lead a happier and physically healthier life. By carrying those hurts you are allowing people to continue to hurt you, you are allowing them to continue to steal your peace. This will affect your nerves, your blood pressure and your heart rate. So, ask yourself, is what they did to you really worth it? Is it worth being sick over? Surely not. Just forgive…it is more for you then for them. Let it go. When thoughts come, switch thoughts and think on good things.
Find out who you are
Find yourself. I always thought that sounded so silly, so “1960s.” However, I have learned that we often define ourselves by what we do and that is not who we are. Although you may be a Mom, a wife, a secretary, a Pastor’s wife, or a homemaker, that is what you do…not who you are. Find out who you are on the inside. You – apart from everyone else and everything you do. You will be surprised at what a wonderful creation God made when He made you. Find who you are in the light of who He says you are. How? It’s all in the Bible. Until you find out who you are you can’t fulfill your destiny…and it will be difficult to find true peace until you are walking in your destiny…so go ahead…find yourself!
